Spouse/Partner (Family Sponsorship)

Through the Spouse/Partner Sponsorship program, citizens and permanent residents can reunite with their loved ones and start a life together in Canada. It’s about family, connection, and building a future side by side.
A spouse or partner of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident may apply for a spouse visa to join their partner in Canada.
Successful applicants must live in a genuine relationship together with their spouse/partner in Canada for two years after receiving permanent residence in Canada.
Requirements
Spouses in a relationship of less than 2 years may apply if they:
- have a spouse/eligible partner who is a permanent resident or Canadian citizen who can sponsor the applicant
- have been in a relationship for up to two years or less have no children in common with the partner
- meet health requirements
- meet character requirements
