Slovenia, a country in central Europe is known for its mountains, ski resorts and lakes.  The capital and largest city is Ljubljana, which translates to “The Loved One”, was awarded Europe’s greenest capital inn2016.

There are more than 10,000 caves in Slovenia.  The best known, Postojna, runs for around 20 km and is on the World Heritage List. Krizna Jama Cave has a reputation as one of Europe’s underground natural wonders.

TRAVEL WARNINGS OF SLOVENIA

  • Pickpocketing can happen in tourist areas and on buses. Keep your belongings secure in Ljubljana and at Lake Bled.
  • Mountain weather changes quickly in the Alps. Check forecasts before hiking and carry proper gear.
  • Roads can be icy and slippery in winter. Drive carefully and use winter tires from November to March.
  • Avalanches are a risk in alpine areas during winter and spring. Follow local warnings and stick to marked trails.
  • Flash floods can occur after heavy rain. Avoid riverbanks and low areas during storms.
