Overview: Many parents are reuniting with their adult children in New Zealand through special migration pathways. The Parent Resident Visa has two tiers — one for faster processing with higher income requirements, and another with a longer wait but lower thresholds. It’s a heartfelt way to bring families back together across the miles.

A parent of a New Zealand citizen or resident may apply for residence if their child has been resident in New Zealand for at least three years.

Tier One

Tier One of the Parent Category for New Zealand residence gives parents of New Zealand citizens who have sufficient funds, a better chance of being selected for New Zealand residence

Tier Two

Tier two of the Parent Category allows parents of the New Zealand residents or citizens who have no adult children resident in the same country as them to apply for registration in New Zealand.

Parent – Retirement

This category is similar to the parent category above, but instead of submitting an expression of interest, the applicant must show sufficient funds or assets, which they will maintain in New Zealand for four years.
